Malicious damage by tenants

malicious damage by tenantsMalicious damage by tenants. Quite possibly one of the things Landlords fear most.

As Landlords, (I’m a Landlord too), we like to think it won’t happen to us, as we’ve been careful about choosing our tenants either directly or via an agent. Despite this, getting it wrong can have disastrous effects to your property.

And yet, not all Landlord Insurance include cover for malicious damage by tenants. What’s worse is that it’s rarely obvious whether cover is included, if you don’t know where to look.

Malicious damage by tenant cover is sometimes included as standard or as an optional extra that you pay extra for. Some insurers won’t let you have it at any cost, and some will give some cover, but limit it to, say, £5,000.

How to tell if you have Malicious damage by tenant cover

property insurance brokerYour policy booklet/wording is the best place to start. That’s the long document with many pages of small print!

Sometimes your policy schedule or the short policy summary might tell you, but the policy wording will go into much more detail about what’s covered and what isn’t.
