E is for Electricians Insurance
So we’re up to ‘E’ in the A-Z of our clients. E is for Electricians Insurance. We arrange Electricians Insurance for a number of Electrical Contractors, who come to us for various kinds of cover.
What’s included in Electricians Insurance
There are a number of covers you can have as part of your Electricians Insurance, but not all of them are available with every policy – some insurers will give basic liability cover, while others will offer many more optional extras to suit the needs of an Electrician.
Here are some of the areas you can cover as part of your Electricians Insurance:
Public/Products Liability
This covers accidental bodily injury to any customer, third party and/or damage to their property e.g. caused by electrical installations, use of tools and equipment. You can choose a limit from £1,000,000 to £5,000,000 or higher.
Employers Liability
It is a legal requirement for employers to carry this insurance with very few exceptions (see guidance on Employers Liability legislation). This cover protects your legal liability in respect of accidental death, bodily injury or disease to employees arising out of and in course of their employment.
Professional Indemnity
Often excluded under more basic policies, this covers errors and omissions in connection with advice, design or specification where provided or performed separately for a fee or under a separate contract.
Defective Workmanship
Another extension, which provides cover for Legal Liability in relation to costs of rectifying any defective work or defective products where the work has caused injury to any person other than an employee or damage to third party property.
Financial Loss
Cover for pecuniary loss or expenses suffered by a customer arising from their business activities e.g. office closure due to faulty wiring installation.
Efficacy
The policy covers your legal responsibility for loss or damage to property due to failure of an intruder or fire alarm, CCTV, door entry system or other security equipment to fulfill its intended function that you have installed e.g. a security system failing to respond to a break-in
Contractor all Risks
As a Contractor you may find yourself responsible for any loss or damage to the electrical installation prior to completion of the Contract. Cover is provided for work in progress, materials in transit, or in temporary storage and at the main site. This sectio of cover can be extended to include loss or damage to your own plant and equipment, or plant you’ve hired in.
Legal Expenses
This gives you access to a free 24 hour/365 day Legal Helpline where you can get legal advice and legal protection cover to protect your business against the cost of potential legal disputes
Property Damage
If you have a premises you can extend your Electricians Insurance to include General Contents, Stock, Fixtures, Fittings, Tenants Improvements and Business Interruption. This can also extend to include cover for Goods in Transit, Computers, Loss of Money and cover for property away from the premises.
