Alternative therapy Liability cover

alternative therapy liability coverI’ve been working on insurance for an alternative therapy company. One of the main areas where alternative therapists require cover is for injury to their patients in the course of the treatment.

Some  alternative therapy companies buy Public Liability Insurance and think it provides them with the cover they need. However, when you read the small print, there is often a treatment exclusion or similar, which excludes cover for injury occurring as part of the treatment.

Insurance brokers essexOf course, this cover is available with certain insurers, but it’s important to check your Liability insurance carefully to ensure you understand what you’re covered for and what’s excluded.

Typically, most Public Liability insurance policies for alternative therapists will have a treatment exclusion, unless specialist cover has been granted by the insurer.

Some insurers refer to the cover as medical malpractice cover, or treatment liability, or something similar.

Sometimes you can get this cover if you belong to any trade associations or bodies that relate to your work.  It’s important to check your insurance carefully however, as these policies are often purchased by the organisation in bulk, and are ”one size fits all”, which is not always suitable.
